We Love Languages!
Here at Hazel Primary School, everyone in Key Stage Two has the chance to learn three different languages: French, Spanish and Latin. We learn French during school time through a range of activities, games and songs, which are designed to help us progress in four main areas: speaking, listening, reading and writing. We also practise our phonics right from the start of Year 3 to help us pronounce and spell the beautiful sounds of the French language. Through our themed celebrations, such as Bastille Day in July, we learn even more about the culture of France and the French-speaking world.
Latin, Spanish and Mandarin Clubs run after school and are very popular. Here we have lots of fun learning about the Spanish-speaking and Ancient worlds and their languages. Some weeks we focus on language and others on cultural activities, such as cooking, dancing, singing or crafts.
The children at Hazel love learning new languages, and many of us speak a language other than English at home. It is wonderful to walk around our school and overhear children greeting each other in French, Spanish, Latin, or their own community languages!
